Service Learning is coming to Little Tokyo and Gardena! Kizuna and Keiro will be hosting two Sunday workshops per region this spring. Service Learning brings together both high school students and older adults in an intergenerational experience that highlights the importance and need for community service.

Service Learning introduces concepts of empowerment and community engagement to high school students through hands-on service, and provides older adults with technology education while creating a space for the sharing of important experiences, values, and history to the next generation. Session 1 will center on the utilization of technology including iPad and Instagram, while Session 2 will focus on the power of storytelling through artifacts, food, and more. Students are encouraged to sign up for both sessions, as each has different activities and experiences to offer.

The Little Tokyo series will be held on Sunday, April 7, and Sunday, April 14, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Sakura Gardens. The South Bay series will be held on Sunday, April 28, and Sunday, May 5, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute.

All workshops are free for older adult students. Each workshop is $25 per high school student, or $40 for two workshops. Lunch will be provided.
